Adenium obesum, commonly known as the Desert Rose, is a stunning succulent prized for its thick, sculptural trunk, glossy green foliage, and beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers. Its distinctive swollen base, known as a caudex, stores water and gives the plant its unique bonsai-like appearance. When grown in the right conditions, it produces gorgeous blooms in shades of pink, red, white, or combinations of these colors.
Care Tips
☀️ Light: Bright light to full sun. Several hours of direct sunlight daily encourage healthy growth and abundant flowering.
💧 Water: Allow the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Water more frequently during active growth and reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy. Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix.
🌡️ Humidity: Prefers warm temperatures and dry to average household humidity. Protect from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
🌱 Growth: Slow to moderate grower that develops a thick, swollen trunk and branching stems. May naturally lose some or all of its leaves during winter dormancy.
🌸 Outdoor Living: Thrives outdoors in a warm, sunny location during summer. Acclimate gradually to direct sunlight and bring indoors before nighttime temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).
🐾 Pet Safety: ❌ Highly toxic to cats & dogs if ingested. Its sap is also toxic and may irritate skin.
With its sculptural trunk, beautiful flowering potential, and exotic desert charm, Adenium obesum is a truly unique succulent that brings a bold, tropical touch to any sunny plant collection.
